TRT + Prostate Cancer

For years, the fear that testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) increases prostate cancer risk has kept many people from seeking the benefits of optimized hormones. But new groundbreaking research says otherwise!

TRT & Prostate Cancer: Debunking the Myth
By Dr. Joseph Palmeri, Ethos Wellness Center

For decades, men considering testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) have faced a common and deeply ingrained concern: "Does TRT increase the risk of prostate cancer?" This fear has led many to avoid a therapy that could significantly enhance their quality of life. However, recent research from the TRAVERSE trial, published in JAMA Network Open, provides clarity—and reassurance.

The Science Behind the TRAVERSE Trial

The TRAVERSE trial is one of the most comprehensive studies to date on TRT and prostate health. Researchers followed 5,246 men aged 45 to 80 years who were either receiving TRT or a placebo. The study specifically examined the occurrence of high-grade prostate cancer, urinary retention, invasive prostate procedures, and new pharmacologic treatments for prostate health.

The findings?

✅ No increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer in men receiving TRT.

✅ No significant differencesin prostate-related adverse events between the TRT and placebo groups.

✅ No evidence that exogenous testosterone fuels the development or progression of prostate cancer.

What This Means for Men Considering TRT

The results of the TRAVERSE trial align with the androgen receptor saturation theory, which suggests that beyond a certain threshold, additional testosterone does not further stimulate prostate cancer growth. This research effectively challenges outdated concerns and confirms that TRT, when properly managed, is a safe and effective therapy for men with low testosterone levels.

Renowned physician Dr. Peter Attia, alongside expert urologist Dr. Ted Schaeffer, recently discussed these findings in-depth, emphasizing that there is no credible evidence that TRT causes prostate cancer.

Instead, low testosterone itself has been linked to worsening metabolic health, reduced vitality, and decreased longevity—all factors that TRT can help improve.
